This week I'm doing something a little different and featuring pics from a restaurant that I haven't tried yet, but the pics on their Facebook page made my mouth water.  This weeks pics are from Bangkok Thai and Sushi in Algonquin, Il.

Check out their recent Facebook sushi pics. The sashimi ignites a flame in me!! I must have it!!

Have you been?  What'd you think? Leave me a comment I'd love to know what to expect when I visit.

It's that time again!! That's right it's Sushi Sunday.

Today I've uploaded a pic from Sushi Thaime in Oaklawn, Il near the Childrens Museum.  I stopped in for a quick snack while in the area to meet a client.
Sushi Thaime has an intimate atmosphere that was welcomed by me, the lights were nice and low and since I was there mid-day I'd already missed the lunch crowd and the dinner crowd wasn't there yet.

This is what I had, but I'll definitely be back for more:

It's that time again!! That's right it's Sushi Sunday.

Today I've uploaded some pics from Sushi + Rotary sushi bar in Aurora, Il behind the Fox Valley Mall.  My family and I stopped in for an early dinner on a Wednesday night because we didn't feel like cooking.  Sushi+ has some tasty rolls but what I find my self going there for is the spicy tuna maki.

They run fun promotions on their Facebook Page; if you want to see their menu, online ordering, and specials check out their website here.

Here are a few of the rolls we've had:

Happy Thanksgiving!!

11.24.2013

This week I'll will cover two places.

Taka Sushi - Sushi Combo
Since I'm totally obsessed I try to have sushi for lunch as often as possible; two of my favorite places are Taka Sushi of Naperville and Sushi House of Westmont.

Taka is a takeout restaurant / Asian grocer and Sushi House is a small chain restaurant operating in the Western Suburbs.  Believe or not these two lunches cost the same, but were very different experiences.  The food was tasty at both of course.

Sushi House - Bento Box

What's your favorite Sushi spot to have lunch? Leave a comment and let me know, I'd love to try it out.

So in the past week I've gone to two wine tastings at grocery stores in the suburbs.  Now before you start thinking that I have a little bit of a sippy problem, I don't, but...am I alone in thinking that these liquor/wine tastings at grocery stores are just another name for a clandestine mom's night out?  There were so many mom-friends out 'shopping' in little groups, while their families were home clueless.

Now, if you're like me you are a working stiff or WAHM that also has to take care of the cooking, some cleaning, and caring for your children so when it's time to go to the grocery store you get a little too excited.  A trip to the grocery store can be one of the highlights of your week sometimes, especially if you are totally obsessed with food (like me).  Well the damn grocery stores are total marketing geniuses and they have figured out a way to lure me in with the promise of a sippy poo followed by me buying extra shit because my inhibitions are null and freaking void. It's worked twice this week and countless times before.

What about you, have you been to these 'tastings' at the grocery store? Were you able to stick to your budget after having free booze?

It's that time again!! That's right it's Sushi Sunday.

Today I've uploaded some pics from Ukai in Plainfield, Il.  These pics are from a dinner we had midweek, and as you can tell it was massive.  Ukai is pretty high volume so the sushi is fresh.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like they have a Facebook page, but they post awesome specials on their website and have a pretty sweet deal running on Groupon (see below).

On to The Dawson

Meeting up with friends that are city socialites at a restaurant that was just opened the night before, should be fun, right? It was.

Again we score kick-ass parking on the next block and waltz in to wait for our friends.  I can be a bit of a recluse at times so instead of sitting at the bar this time we went outside to sit near the fireplace.  It was completely empty so I was happy, got a few smooches in by the fireplace, then our friends showed up.  They weren't as impressed by the fireplace considering it was only 45 degrees outside so we went indoors to wait for our table to be cleaned (whole wait was about 15 minutes total, not bad).

We were seated and given menus.  I believe that there were at least a couple of different versions of the menu for that night because my menu was different from everyone else at the table, which I was fine with considering mine had more options on it.  I don't think everyone else was so pleased with that though.  My hubs made sure to include on our reservation that it was my birthday so it was a sweet gesture when the waiter told me happy birthday, along with the hostess, and a few other staff members.  We ordered cocktails to start, I ordered the liquid swords which was a sake cocktail with prosecco and orange bitters, it was tasty.  Moving on to the entrees, we decided to skip appetizers since we pre-gamed at Tanta, I took the easy route since I was already kinda full and ordered an oyster po-boy, the hubs ordered the Wood-grilled pork jowl burger.  The entrees were well planned but considering it was opening weekend, I don't think the restaurant has gotten its timing down quite yet.  The bread, oysters, and cocktail sauce had excellent flavor, but my sandwich was cold.  My hubs had the burger and again the work that went into picking flavors was evident, the pickled peppers were AMAZING but the burger, although ordered medium was pink but dry.  We'd both be willing to go back to The Dawson and order our entrees again in a couple of months when they find their rhythm because everything that we tried was well thought out, the flavor profiles were good, but the timing between the kitchen and the table weren't right.  We ordered a funnel cake for dessert, it was a fun choice, and it came to the table warm, which I was happy about!! I'd definitely order that again, although I'm surprised that wasn't comped for my birthday, but that's probably just me being a spoiled ass brat.

The highlight of our night was meeting Chef Rene as we were leaving, very nice guy, another reason to pay them a visit again in a couple months.

My birthday was awesome-sauce. We got great parking, I had some drinks, ate well, and had good company. Back to the suburbs for me...

Yep, I love Sushi, so I will bombard everyone with pics of my love every Sunday.  If you like sushi be sure to come back weekly for cool spots to check out in the 'burbs.

Let's start with Abashiri of Bloomingdale, Il.  We love this place, our kids included!!

Their website is not reflective of their food, trust me. Website is shit, food is really good!  They also have a FB page.

This some of what we've had at Abashiri:

Finally got a chance to take a look at the Michelin Guides Bib Gourmand list for 2014 released yesterday and was happy to see some more Suburban restaurants on the list.  The 'bibs' are released first and the list of restaurants that have earned Michelin stars for 2014 will be out on 11/13/13, so be sure to check back for the list of Suburban Michelin Starred restaurants!!

**Defined as “Inspectors’ Favorites for Good Value,” Bib Gourmand restaurants offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included), and are often of most value to a city’s residents, who regularly dine in neighborhood restaurants.
