Declaration: I love ethnic grocery stores!!

Having a craving for my favorite guava candy and not having money in the budget to go to Tairyo in Lisle, Il for hibachi just to get said favorite candy when they give me the bill, I decided to hit up the 'Asian Food Store' in Aurora, Il.  Since dinner at Tairyo is usually about 50 bucks and a bag of this addictive candy was only 3 bucks at the 'Asian Food Store' I'd say I did the right thing for my budget and my sweet tooth.

While there I also checked out these other goodies:

I love prawn crackers but I'm curious about the coconut jam, anyone tried it? It's an import from the Philippines and it contains muscovado sugar which I've never had.

Since peanuts are a no-no in my home (kids with allergies) I had to leave the Lily's at the store but I did buy a disgusting number of bags of prawn crackers!!! Nom, Nom, Nom.

If you haven't already please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so that we can share our suburban food finds with each other.

Trader Joes has started leasing additional properties in the Chicago Suburbs.  Most recently, they picked up a property in Libertyville on Milwaukee Ave and another in Schaumburg on Golf and Meacham (yet to be built).  Are you a fan on Trader Joes?

The Libertyville store has been being built out since May 2013 and should open any day now.  To track the opening date and to get the exact address check out the Trader Joes website.

The Schaumburg store lease was just signed off on the other day and they will be building a new building at the Woodfield Village Green on Golf and Meacham.  They are expected to open sometime next year.  Since this is such a new contract it is not currently listed on the Trader Joes website.

So, what are your favorite products from Trader Joes?  There are a few TJ staples in my home like:
1. Organic Wild Blueberries
2. Wild Caught Fish
3 . Organic Veggie and Flax Chips
4.  Organic Coconut Oil

I count on these products from TJs for the quality and competitive prices.  As with any grocery store you shop or items that you buy, read the labels and determine what's best to buy for you and your family.

I'd love to know where you think Trader Joes should open up next.  Comment below or let me know via Social Media @eattheburbs on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

It's that time again!! That's right it's Sushi Sunday.

Today I've uploaded some pics from Sushi Pirate in North Aurora, Il.  My family and I stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday and we were just early enough to miss the crowd that was coming as we were leaving! I love having early dinner and skipping the crowd when I'm out with my family, just in case my toddler gets cranky.  Sushi Pirate has some tasty rolls and my personal favorite is their 'Mexican Roll', be sure to check it out when you visit.

Their Facebook Page has some tantalizing pictures on it but other than that there isn't much action there, if you want to see their menu, online ordering, and specials check out their website here.

Here are a few of the rolls we had:

Happy Thanksgiving!!

This week I'll will cover two places.

Taka Sushi - Sushi Combo
Since I'm totally obsessed I try to have sushi for lunch as often as possible; two of my favorite places are Taka Sushi of Naperville and Sushi House of Westmont.

Taka is a takeout restaurant / Asian grocer and Sushi House is a small chain restaurant operating in the Western Suburbs.  Believe or not these two lunches cost the same, but were very different experiences.  The food was tasty at both of course.

Sushi House - Bento Box

What's your favorite Sushi spot to have lunch? Leave a comment and let me know, I'd love to try it out.

So in the past week I've gone to two wine tastings at grocery stores in the suburbs.  Now before you start thinking that I have a little bit of a sippy problem, I don't, but...am I alone in thinking that these liquor/wine tastings at grocery stores are just another name for a clandestine mom's night out?  There were so many mom-friends out 'shopping' in little groups, while their families were home clueless.

Now, if you're like me you are a working stiff or WAHM that also has to take care of the cooking, some cleaning, and caring for your children so when it's time to go to the grocery store you get a little too excited.  A trip to the grocery store can be one of the highlights of your week sometimes, especially if you are totally obsessed with food (like me).  Well the damn grocery stores are total marketing geniuses and they have figured out a way to lure me in with the promise of a sippy poo followed by me buying extra shit because my inhibitions are null and freaking void. It's worked twice this week and countless times before.

What about you, have you been to these 'tastings' at the grocery store? Were you able to stick to your budget after having free booze?
