I'm a Chicago Girl, born and raised so I know good Italian Beef Sandwiches and good Gyros. This place has them both, although it's hidden in the sticks, it's worth the drive and the prices are reasonable.
They have a lot of stuff on the menu but I only get two things, the same two things that are in the name. Why? Because clearly these are the two things that they should do well.
Da Beef
The sandwich is your standard beef sandwich tasty delicious shaved beef in a very well seasoned Au Jus. I get mine hood style, dipped in the au jus, with hot peppers, sweet peppers, and American. I hate American Cheese, but on a beef sandwich it's a must do.
Da Gyro pronounced 'Year-o' not friggin Guy-ro or jeer-o OK?
I usually like mine standard, with tzatziki and raw onions, but every once in awhile, I like to get all fancy and get it covered with tomato, onion, parsley, and cucumber with the tzatziki on the side. No matter how I get my Gyro's it's always bananas!!
So if you are looking for a little taste similar to the city of Chicago, try Mr Beef and Gyros out.
